Progressive Wellness Workshops offer an education model for working with groups: we create discussions, instead of just teaching, and talk about the effective options and choices that increase wellness. In a group setting, there are many benefits that come from exchanging ideas with each other, not just with a provider.
Our goal is to expand the ways people relate to health so they think about creating meaningful changes themselves -- through self-care, which is learned as we gain new skills. We have found that these resources generate better results, and often ignite sparks of interest in life-long wellness, because they give people more motivation to make constructive choices.
We have seen that what people need most for lifestyle change is not discipline as much as clarity, deeper understanding, and comfort. When a group has continuity, the support lasts longer and offers a more comfortable setting; then it's easier to learn more, and valuable because we see that we have much in common with others.
We believe healthy lifestyle change is a natural outcome of education and self-esteem; people also need resources and empowerment. By focusing on education that improves the ability to manage self-care, the outcome is better Prevention. This logic is a key to reversing the long-standing crisis: the high cost of health care is largely due to treatments required for the high rate of chronic illnesses.
